So it was time for Jack to get braces.....he was LESS than thrilled, and says he doesn't really think he needs them....ha! Peyton and I have been telling him, yes, jack, just get them now so that they will be off by the time you go to high school.
I took him to his orthodontist appointment to get his braces and and he and Peyton went in together. Peyton had an appointment to get hers adjusted at the same time, and they are not allowing parents in the waiting room right now, due to COVID. Peyton came out about 15 minutes later, which I wasn't surprised about, I knew her appointment would be quick. Well, Jack came out about 2 minutes later....which I WAS surprised by, cause I knew there was no way he could have his braces on already!!! The nurse was trailing behind Jack holding a piece of paper. Jack still had his mask on, so I couldn't really see his face, but I COULD see his big eyes!!
She was holding a picture of his panoramic X-RAY. It appears that Jack has some extra teeth in the roof of his mouth and was referred to an oral surgeon. Jack was extremely scared, and rightfully so, as all he heard was the nurse say "surgery" and "possible tooth in his nose." I mean, why would she not CALL me and discuss this stuff with me instead of saying it in front of him and scaring him!?!
So we went home and I sent the picture to a couple other dentists that we know, and they agreed that yes he has extra teeth. But they also said, don't worry too much yet, as the surgeon might feel they are in a spot that are ok. I made the appointment with the surgeon that day.
We went to the appointment with the surgeon and she said they they do indeed need to come out, so we made the appointment, around the baseball schedule of course!
The day of the surgery Jack woke up and we headed that way. He was pretty quiet in the car, but trying so hard to be brave. Half way there he looked at me and said, "I'm scared." ...... Break a mother's heart!!!! I reassured him that he was going to be ok. He did ok while we were in the waiting room, the Price is Right was on TV so we were watching that and I was trying to distract him with 100 questions about the show. They then called us back.
They went over everything with us again and had me sign consent forms and got Jack hooked up to the heart monitors and then she left the room for a second. He looked at me again and said, "I'm scared.".....UGH!!!! I did hold it together pretty well in front of him and thank God I had on a mask and he couldn't see my lip quivering. I felt so bad for him. I then left the room and they put him to sleep and did the procedure. I went to the waiting room and cried.....I knew he was in good hands but I just hated seeing him trying to be so brave, but yet so scared at the same time.
They came and got him 30 minutes later and said they were finished and he was waking up and that I could come back and see him. They discharged us about 15 minutes later and they wheeled him down to my car. All was good and fine, until about 5 minutes before we got home, Jack decide to pull down the car mirror and take a look at his mouth. When he say all the gauze and blood, he kind of freaked out. I was trying to console him and tell him it was fine, while trying to drive the car on the highway too. Once I got him home I thought I was gonna lose him as he was walking in. I thought he was going down.....we got very nervous and scared and about passed out. I got him inside and on the couch. Then I had Maddie and Peyton crying too, cause they saw what he looked like and got scared too.
It was a long hour and a half, until the bleeding stopped. Once the bleeding stopped, he was fine. The bleeding just had him scared. He lounged on the couch with Gus the rest of the afternoon and ate a TON of ice cream.....and I didn't care!!! It was a longer recovery than I thought it would be. He didn't feel up to much of anything (except XBOX) for at least a week.
But now it's over, he feels completely normal, and we have a new appointment to get those braces on now!!!
