Jack Basketball

Maddie and I got off the place and Mike and Jack came and picked us up real quick!!!  We didn't have time to waste, as Jack had a basketball game to get to.  Jack is not getting to play much basketball this year, as the season started late, due to COVID, so it is going to be short and sweet.  They are also not getting much practice tine, as Kirkwood School District is not renting there gyms out right now, which means all of our teams only have access to St Peter gym.....which means each CYC team gets to practice once every other week.

Oh well, I guess it's better than nothing......

Peyton's First Babysitting Gig

We (Taylor, Leigh-Anne and I), always joked that since I had kids so early, that one day my kids would be babysitting theirs.  And well.....it came true!  Peyton landed her first babysitting gig with the Brueggenjohanns.  Due to COVID, you are only allowed one spectator, so siblings cannot come to games. SOOO....Peyton went and hung out with the two little Brueggenjohanns while Mike and Leigh-Anne went to Andrew's game.  She must've did an OK job, cause they hired her for the rest of the season as well.....HA!

Texas Prime Meet

Maddie had been totally bummed since learning that the Texas meet and First Reconciliation were on the same weekend.  She knew she couldn't go to Texas and had accepted it.  So once the meet schedule came out, and the girls didn't compete until Sunday, I called the gym to see if Maddie could be added on.  With COVID, meets have been way more flexible with late adds and cancels......so they let Maddie be added on.  She was THRILLED, as she now was able to do both things.

Once Maddie's First Reconciliation was over, we headed home.  We changed clothes, finished packing our bags, and off to the airport we went.  We got to Texas about dinner time.  We caught an Uber, got to our hotel and got checked in, and then met some of her teammates for a quick dinner.  Once dinner was over we headed back to the hotel and went to bed, as we had to be up super early for the meet.

We went and had a quick breakfast with London before the meet.  The meet was good, our girls competed well, but boy did we see some good competition!  I guess Texas is the place you go if you want to be like an olympian.  The girls there, at age 7 and 8, are already in gym academies and LIVING at their gymnastics center.  CRAZY!!!!!

Maddie still ended up placing in two events and all around.....so she left with some hardware and a smile.

We had some time to kill before our flight, so we went to lunch with her  teammates and then headed to the airport.

Other than the meet, I think the highlight was getting TikTuck shirts to match her pals.  LOL!!  They love them some TikTok!  She had a great weekend!!

First Reconciliation

Maddie had her first reconciliation and it went off without a hitch.  As with her siblings, she was nervous.  She decorated her candle that week, and then Saturday morning rolled around and it was time to go.  Due to COVID, they did not get to pick which priest they went to, to keep lines small and spread out.  She was appointed the traveling priest from St. Gerard.  She was a little disappointed, as she would have chosen Father Jack, but she was OK.  She got in there, confessed her sins, lit her candle, went back to her pew and completed her penance, and off we went.  She and I were headed out to Texas that afternoon for a gymnastics meet.  She was all smiles when it was over.  Now, how long will she be free from sin????   HA!

We've always known Gus was not the smartest, BUT........

Ummm......he JUMPED OUT OF MY MOVING CAR!!!!  What?!?!  The kids had off school for MLK day, so Peyton and I were going to take the dogs down to the park where they like to run.  Gus LOVES the park and is always ripping and ready to go!  We was excited, and once we turned on the final road he was super pumped.  We had just turned, so the car was only going about 10 MPH, and he saw another dog out for a walk, so he thought he'd just jump out and play.  OMG!!!!!!  Luckily there was no car behind me.  I slammed on my breaks, ran out to get him and he wouldn't walk, and had pooped himself .

We called the vet and they said we could bring him in and they'd work him in.  We took Annie home, dropped her off, grabbed Gus's leash and headed to the vet.  When we stopped at home and Annie jumped out, Gus didn't even move....so I knew he was hurt!

They vet tech came out and got Gus from the car and she had to use a towel to lift up his back legs and have him walk on his front two legs.  They called me a little bit later and said that he had broke the upper part of his back right leg.  Since it was the upper part of his leg, they would not be able to cast it.  Now we have to go to a doggie orthopedic surgeon......UGH!!!!  They sent Gus home that night, extremely doped up, and we had to just give him painkillers the next day, as they couldn't get him in for surgery until Wednesday.  I literally slept on the foyer floor with him that night......My body told me I was too old for that.

Everyone took their turn laying in his cage with him.....babysitting Gus....

Surgery DAY!!  Mike took the kids to school and I took Gus to the surgeon.  They called me about 2:00 and said the surgery was done and that it went great.  They said he would stay over night and be released the next day.  They also said that we wouldn't hear from them again.....that no news was good news.  Well, about 10:30 that night they call.  They said he had been regurgitating a little bit through out the day and just thought it was the anesthesia.  Then they took him out to the bathroom an he pooped out something that wasn't poop.....soooooo, they wanted me to spend another couple hundred bucks to take an X-ray and see if he had a blockage.  I told them, nah, lets just wait until the morning and see how he does.  Whatever it was, I'm sure he's had way worse!  So the next morning they call and say they think they still need to take the x-ray......ugh!  FINE!  SO they did and they didn't see anything........they wanted to watch him the rest of the day and see if he would quit regurgitating.

He finally got to come home that night......and OH GOODNESS is this dog gonna be a ton of work!!  He feels fixed and good as new with the plate in his leg, but the bone needs to heal for 12 weeks!!!!!  For 12 weeks, he cannot run, jump, play with Annie, jump on the couch or bed, etc.  It's gonna be exhausting!!  But we are happy that he feels well and is fixed!!!!

Here we are, very bored in the car, waiting for the to come get him for surgery.  Can't go in because of COVID, so we just wait in the car until they are ready and then they come out and grab him.

The cone of SHAME!!!!  Poor GUS!

Back to babysitting duties from everyone again!

Such a pitiful sight!

The next day I lifted him on the couch to sit by me while I paid bills and worked on the computer.

Gus getting his ride up to bed every night......ha!

And from now on......Gus no longer gets to stick his head out the window.....nose only!!!!  He ruined his freedom!!
